A Public Information Meeting (PIM) was held on March 27, 2008 to present the preliminary findings and recommendations of the Draft Master Plan. Please see the meetings page for the meeting minutes, presentation, and newsletter. Please see the documents page to view the Draft Master Plan.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) is developing an Airport Master Plan (AMP) for Danielson Airport (5B3), located in Killingly, Connecticut. The AMP will provide planning guidelines for the future development of the Airport. The development needs identified as a result of the AMP are intended to satisfy present and future aviation demand, minimize environmental impacts, address community concerns, and maintain compatibility with other transportation systems. The previous plan developed for Danielson Airport was an Airport Layout Plan (ALP) Report completed in 1988.

The products of the AMP will consist of a study report and an ALP drawing set. The study report is a technical document that provides the foundation for the ALP drawing set, and includes a series of narrative and graphic illustrations. The ALP drawing set depicts a variety of important items, including the existing and proposed airport layout, airspace obstructions, and a land use plan.

The AMP study includes the following tasks:

  • Maintain an Open Public Participation Process
  • Obtain Accurate Base Mapping
  • Airport Inventory (considers airport, regional, and environmental characteristics)
  • Forecast Future Airport Activity
  • Identify Facility Requirements
  • Develop Alternatives and Select a Long-Term Development Plan
  • Review Environmental Impacts
  • Estimate the Airport’s Economic Impact
  • Prepare Airport Layout Plan Drawings
  • Develop an Implementation Plan

The AMP includes several Advisory Committee (AC) meetings and a Public Information Meeting (PIM). All meetings are open to the public. The AC is comprised of representatives from ConnDOT and other State agencies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), primary airport tenants, and local towns, schools, and neighborhoods. The goal of the AC is to provide well-balanced input to the planning process, addressing the concerns of the community as well as the needs of airport users. Study documents, photographs, and meeting materials are available through this website. Comments may also be submitted through this website, or by email.
